Latest Amazon Placement Question Paper - Dec 06
The paper was all subjective in nature(you had to write on the paper itself). It was not that difficult though there was plenty of data strucutres involved in it. There were few Aptitude questions on first page like 5-6. One of the puzzles was same old question of King having 1000 bottles in which one of them is poisonous, How many prisoners he need to know which of the bottle is poisonous(answer is log n).
One of the question was if two trains are 1000 m apart and approaching each other and a bird is flying from one train to another, than how much distane it covered before the trains got collided. I think all these questions are covered in the puzzle book here. Just check it out.
There were some outright Algorithm design questions dealing with arrays. Make sure you are really good with Algorithms as well as with time complexities.
I am not able to remember exactly but there were few problems on trees and sorting as well. In short Amazon was only looking for ppl with sound programming skills. In the end, they asked me to write two programming codes. One question was on dice rolling and finding probabilities and the other question was on merging two arrays of m and n size in sorted manner. Time complexity was the most cruial factor as they were looking for the efficient solution on Oh(n) and less time.
Amazon PayScale - It seems Amazon pays in par with Microsoft and in IIT's they have paid CTC(cost to company) of 8.5 lakh + benifits. Kool huh...
Too add more info on Amazon, they don't hire too many because of there limited scope of work. MicroSoft is still the Grand Daddy of all big companies and they are currently on crack, hiring "anyone". Anyway on serious note, Amazon has 3 centers in India, at Mangalore,Hyderabad and Chennai. I feels they can be compared to yahoo in terms of what they look in a candidate. If you are a Masters student than do try for Amazon.
