Merittrac Question Paper - 2

2. Aptitude and Quantitative - I am sorry to say but Merittrac's Aptitude questions are total Nonsense. I was shocked to see some of the papers as they have given same type of questions 5 times(out of 20 apti questions) with changed values. The most unfortunate part is that it seems companies are also not conerned to even look at what kind of papers Merittrac sets for them. What a Pity !
Some of the "Famous" Aptitude questions are -
The cube problem which they always give you. The idea is you have given a cube of length 'n' and than it is painted say Red. Than it is cutted into small cubes of size 1(one) so tell how many cubes have one side colored as Red, two sides as red and than various other derivations of it. Just remember one formulae for a cube of side length n, there will be (n-2)^3 [n-2 to the power of 3] no. of cubes which will not have any side colored. For example, if there is a cube of n=4 length and it's cutted into small cubes of size 1 than we will be having 64 cubes, Right ??? than we will be having (n-2)^3 => (4-2)^3 => 8 cubes which will not be having any side painted. There will be 8 cubes(always) with 3 size painted as red. There can be many other variants of this problem like what if one side's odd columns of the cubes get removed. Try to visualize such problems. Again DO NOT waste too much time on them.
Another type of question is the Venn Diagram's once. In the school there are 30 students who studies physics, 40 chemistry, 34 Maths and ... so find how many only are enrolled in physics only or find the numeber of students who are registered in Physics and Chemistry but not in Maths(This kind of question has been asked everytime)
Please Note that the questions are not formalae based so you DO have to put some thought in them.
One of the worst kind of questions is when they give a equation like tell what will be the answer of this equation 3+5/3-2*6 if + means -, - is +, * is / and / is *
They have the habit of giving 5 such questions and I have no idea why they do this. Make sure you are FAST in calculations and are not wasting too much time on them. also 3/4 means 0.75 and not 0
One more type of question which they ask everytime is if 0 means '*' and 1 means '$' and the numbers are represented as bits For eg. 3 as $$(it's binary is 11), 6 as $$* than tell how will 44^2 - 33^2 will be repesented. Silly huh, but this is there way. You have to solve the equation fast and than convert into binary, that's it. Again they will give like 5-4 such questions.
Other than these, there will be questions of profit-loss, mixing water into milk and if one do a work in 6 days, other do it in 8 days than in how many days both will finish the work kind of questions. There was also a problem on upstream/downstream problem of boat and stream and you had to find the speed of the stream.
