There are Many free Media Players available in the Market to play all kind of Media files like AVI, WMV, MPEG, DAT. In this Review I am going to cover some of the more
popular Free Media Players.
1. Window Media Player - The most popular Media player, Windows Media Player is ported by default with Every Windows Operating System. The latest version is Version 11 which you can download it from here. You can also download previous version from the same link. Please note that windows media player does not support all media formats. For this, you can install Special Codecs, again from the same link. You can also download Windows Media Player 9 Codecs from here Rating (4.5/5)
2. Real Media Player - Personally its not my favorite player due to some very basic reasons like connecting to internet and pesky ads/pop ups. I only uses it for playing .rm and .rmvb files as they can only be played in real media player. Rating (3.5/5)
3. VLC Media Player - VLC is one of very few Media players which has come from Open Source community and supports almost every format. Though it has often been criticized for the same reason as it is not authorized to support many copyrighted formats. Anyway Just download it and see yourself its power. The best thing about it which I like is that it is just a media player, No mumbo-jumbo of real player or windows player. No libraries, no online buying CD's and all that stuff. Load the video, and Play.Rating (4.75/5)
4. Windows Media Player Classic - The older version of Windows Media Player. Microsoft Does not support it but still nice little player.
5. Quicktime media player - Quicktime is Apple's Media Player with The most recent version being 7.1.5. You can download it from above link and see yourself. Please note it doesn't play lot's of file formats and doesn't have great flexibility neither options. Rating (3.75/5)
6. Winamp Media Player - Winamp has come a long way from just being a mp3 player. It's owner company NullSoft has worked a lot on it and now winamp support video files very smoothly. They have added tons of features(many unnecessary for normal user). For mp3 files, there is still NO alternative for winamp. Ofcourse it has to come a long way as far as playing Video files are concerned as still it can not play many formats. Rating (4.5/5)
7. DivX Media Player - DivX is a brand name of products created by DivX, Inc. (formerly DivXNetworks, Inc.), including the DivX Codec which has become popular due to its ability to compress lengthy video segments into small sizes while maintaining relatively high visual quality. The DivX codec uses lossy MPEG-4 Part 2 compression, also known as MPEG-4 ASP, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. Source wiki
