How to Write Perfect Indian Resume

OK, I am NOT going to write a 2000 word article on this(may be some other day) but I just want to mention few things which I feels matters most and just want to break some myths about what people thinks about resume, specially Indian students.
1. Resumes DO NOT carry that much weightage as people think they are - Shocked!!! Yes, people say that Resumes' are the most important part of your preperation but this is not true. WIth thousands of resumes which companies get daily, noone has time to SEE your resume properly. Nowdays its referal, which work baby . Ofcourse this don't mean that you make a resume of one page on yellow colour page and use four different fonts, I am just saying that there are other things which work more now.
2. There are only 3 things which the MOST important things in your resume, Your GPA(percentage), Your skillset and the kind of projects you have done. Sometimes weird things like whether you have passport can also work wonders but that's a different case.
3. No one looks whether you were the school captain of your cricket team. Not that you should not write it, if you have space you can always write it, I am just telling you that DO NOT count on it to get you a job.
4. If you have attedned some seminars or workshops or won some programming contests, DO mention them specially if the company is "Good" and looking for "sound" programmers. Ofcourse you may want to skip this part if you are sitting for Infosys and TCS as it can go against you. They think(and rightly so) that such people will either not join them or will leave them in few months. And seriously, if you are that good, than why them ? why not google and Microsoft.
5. If you are really desperate to write on your extra curricular activities, stress on your communication and organization skills rather than writing "you came second in drawing competition in your school". Do mention some talks or if you were by any means related to college magazine or any such activity. They carry more weightage.
6. C++ and Java can do Magic - Yes, slight mention of C++ and Java will give you lot's of advantage over others afterall you are competing with others. But a word of caution! Do not lie. If you do't know a single thing of C++ and Java than don't write it because if the guy asks you a very basic question and you can not answer it than you are roasted. But ya, if you are forwarding your resume to some company than do write them as it make your resume standout.
7. What to write in skillset and what not - Don't write you know Microsoft Office or Photoshop. Seriously Why people write this, I don't know.
Instead write the tools which you might have used. Mentioning debuggers like GDB will also help(Make sure you know everything about it before writing). Try to make your skill set look complete by mentioning web technologies. If you have knowledge of J2EE or .Net than even better.
These are some of the points which I was able to think about it, if I remembers something more than I will add them. If you feels something is missing or you don't agree with something than tell me. I would surely like to dicuss this. Cheers !!!
